Our California Adventure! Part 1: Vehicle prep and shipping

Welcome back faithful followers of the blog. It has been ages since we have posted so it is time to bring you up to date on some of our projects while also sharing some of our Dino stories. This will be the first of a series of posts where I will tell the tale of our recent California adventure.

As some of you may know, every year in August is Car Week in Northern California. Enthusiasts from around the world partake in car shows and auctions where the best cars are shown and the current market for classics is generally established. The pinnacle of this week is the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance and 2015 is special as the Ferrari Club of America (FCA) has decided to hold its annual meet just after Car Week thereby extending the festivities.

Since our last post winter fell heavily upon Canada and once the weather cleared we managed some really nice drives in the Dino. With California Car Week approaching the decision was made to ship the Dino down and take part in two shows: Concorso Italiano and the FCA National Concours.

Competing in these shows is not cheap with car transport, airfare, hotels, and general expenses making it a costly exercise. That said we had a special motivation to attend as Dad (who was unable to be at last years judging) was able to come and at the end of the show He and Paul would be able to take a once in a lifetime drive together down the coast along the famed HWY 1 to Southern California.

It would be a week of highs and lows with luck and fantastic human decency and kindness helping us through our challenges. We will tell the whole story over the next few posts so buckle up your Klippans because it is going to be a fun ride.

First step was prepping the car and shipping it to California. This all went smooth and was helped tremendously with our first stroke of luck. Just before making the decision to participate in the California events, some long lost money came back our way through a most entertaining and unorthodox series of events which both amused us to no end and covered the lions share of our journey. More on that perhaps another day but for now enjoy some prep and transport pics :)

Despite some 2000 kilometers since finishing the car we managed to keep it nice and clean
